STUDY ABROAD FAQS

General FAQ

To achieve fluency, we recommend you complete the full year of the Arabic program. If you are unable to commit to one year, however, you may attend the Arabic program for as long or as little as you wish.

Yes, our Arabic program is for beginners to advanced students.

Most students get a tourist visa and, depending on your passport/nationality, you may be able to acquire your entry visa upon arrival at the airport. HOWEVER, we recommend you check with your embassy beforehand on your visa requirements.

In general, Egypt is a safe country to visit. The location and nearby areas of Al Mokattam, where our campus is located, is a very safe and quiet area. Studio Arabiya has taken extra steps to ensure that all of our students are safe from the moment they step out of the airport.

Studio Arabiya’s campus is located in a quiet, safe neighborhood in Al Mokattam, Cairo, Egypt. Al Mokattam was chosen as the location for our campus for a few different reasons. 1.) It is a very quiet and safe, away from the commotion of Cairo city life and possible protests. 2.) It is centrally-located, making traveling to Al Azhar University, tourist attractions, and other near-by areas of Cairo quick and easy. 3.) Being on top of a mountain and above the busy Cairo life, the surroundings of our campus and neighborhood are clean with less pollution than the rest of Cairo.

We accept students year-round and students can come to the institute at anytime. If you’re joining a group, you should plan to come a few days before the class dates, so you can join at the beginning of the level.  Dates are listed here.

The main curriculum used in our intensive Arabic program is the Arabiya Bayna Yadayk series. Additional books are used throughout the program as supplements to help you obtain fluency in all aspects of the Arabic language.

Yes, a visa is required to enter Egypt. A visa may be acquired at an Egyptian Embassy and can sometimes be acquired upon entering Egypt. Some students have reported that the visa was required before boarding their flight. Since rules change often, it is your responsibility to confirm where and when to get your visa, as Studio Arabiya has no involvement with the visa process.

Classes

Although we do try to segregate classes, group classes may be mixed, depending on availabilities. If the class is mixed, students may sit on opposite sides of the classroom. Private classes are with a same-gender teacher (female with female, male with male), unless otherwise requested by the student.

We have both male and female teachers in the institute.

In the beginning levels of the Arabic course, some English is used in order to facilitate learning. We think the best way to learn is by immersing yourself in the language you are learning, so you will notice, as you progress in your course, that you will use less and less English in the class!

Studio Arabiya Institute has group classes starting throughout the year, so you can join when it’s convenient for you! Group Classes can be joined ANY MONTH! New Levels begin on the 1st of every month, so it’s best to plan your travel a few days before in order to get settled in before starting classes. Private students may start classes at any time throughout the year.
