In today’s article we will learn the Dua for traveling, what should you do and say before traveling to ask Allah for his protection and help.

Traveling is encouraged in Islam, and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the One who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler.”

What is the DUA for traveling in Quran?

Life is mentioned as a long journey in the Holy Quran, but yet the travel itself is also mentioned and encouraged if it is for a good reason.

From the holy Quran. you should say the following Dua to ask Allah for his protection when Embarking on Travel.

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ

Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarokan wa anta khairul munzilin

“My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing-place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].” [Surah Al Muminun, verse 29]

During the journey you should say:

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

“Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.” [Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14]

 You could also say:

وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدۡخِلۡنِى مُدۡخَلَ صِدۡقٍ۬ وَأَخۡرِجۡنِى مُخۡرَجَ صِدۡقٍ۬ وَٱجۡعَل لِّى مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلۡطَـٰنً۬ا نَّصِيرً۬ا

Wa-qul Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa

“O Lord, cause me to enter a goodly entrance and cause me to go out a goodly exit, and grant me from you an authority to assist (me).” [Sura Al-‘Isra 17:80]

When reaching your destination say the following Dua:

وَقَالَ ارْكَبُواْ فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ

Va kealarkaboo feehea bismilleahi macreahea va murseahea, inna raabbee la gaafoorun raaheem

“Embark there in! In the name of Allah be its course or its mooring. Lo! My Lord is Forgiving and Merciful!” [Surah Al-Hud – 11:41]

What does Allah say about traveling?

In the Quran travel is referred to by the word ‘saiyr’ which literally means travel or move, it was mentioned in the Quran 27 times.

Through our travel we are guided by the nature like the starts, therefore they were mentioned in the holy Quran in the following verses:

“And He it is who has set for you the stars that you may guide yourselves by them in the darkness of the land and the sea. We have detailed Our messages for a people who possess knowledge.”

“And He it is who has made the sea subservient …/ And He has placed firm mountains on Earth, lest it sway with you, and rivers and paths, so that you might find your way, / And landmarks; and by the stars they are guided.”

“He it is who has made the Earth a cradle for you, and has traced out for your ways therein.”

In the holy Quran, traveling is encouraged if it’s for a good cause, for example, if it is for learning and studying, for trading, searching and exploring new things, visiting new places and gaining knowledge about the world, to enjoy or migrate.

When traveling we see the wonders that Allah created, which strengthens our faiths even more. During the journey, you will see many amazing things that will make you worship Allah and thank him for those beautiful blessings.

“Have you not seen the ships speeding through the sea, carrying God’s provisions so that He might show you some of His wonders? Herein, behold, there are messages indeed for all who are patient, grateful.”

“And how many a Message in the Heavens and the Earth which they pass by, yet they turn away from it!” 12:105

We do have many things that we should thank Allah for, the ability to travel is one of those many blessings that Allah gave us.

When we travel, we learn and gain knowledge and wisdom, we experience new things that we haven’t experienced before and learn new things, that’s the main goal of traveling.

“Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? For surely it is not the eyes that are blind, but blind is the minds which are in the foremost.” 22:46

In the holy Quran, Allah encourages humans to travel for trading.

“Your Sustainer is He who causes the ships to move on for you through the sea so that you may go about in quest of some of His bounty: verily Most Merciful is He towards you.” 17:66

“And in the ships that speed through the sea with what benefits man … there are messages for a people reasoning.” 2:164

“Then, once the communication is complete, you disperse through the Earth and go in quest of some of divine Bounty, and remember God frequently, so that you may succeed.” 62:10

Allah also encourages us to travel to search and explore new places and learn about other people’s cultures and gain their knowledge.

“And on that one sees ships ploughing through the waves, so that you might go forth in quest of some of His bounty, and thus have cause to be grateful.” 16:14

“And you see the ships cleave through it that you may seek of His Bounty and that you may be thankful.” 35:12

“It is God who has subjected to you the sea that the ships may run thereon by His command, that you may seek of his Bounty, and that you may be thankful.” 45:12

Even traveling for tourism is encouraged, in the following verses:

“He is who enables you to travel by land and sea; until when you are in the ships, and they sail on with them in a pleasant breeze, and they rejoice.” 10:22

“Lawful for you is all water-game, and all the catch of the sea, as enjoyment for you and for those who travel.” 5:96

“And among His signs is that He sends the winds with glad tidings, and to give you a taste of His grace, and so that the ships might sail by His command, and that you might go about in quest of some of His Bounties, that you may be thankful.” 30:46

When you travel you will learn and gain knowledge about the world, and that’s a good thing to do:

“Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear?” 22:46

“Have you not seen the ships speeding through the sea, carrying God’s provisions, so that He might show you some of His wonders? Herein, behold, there are messages indeed for all who are patient, grateful.” 31:31

We are asked to travel to another place if we can’t practice our religion or express our opinions:

“Was God’s Earth not spacious enough that you could emigrate in it?” 4:97

“Those who have emigrated for God because they were oppressed, We will grant them good in this world, and the reward of the End will be greater if they knew.” 16:41

Dua for traveling in Quran

Exploring and searching are also good reasons to travel for, during the journey a person can learn about the evolution of the world and even life.

“Do they not see how God originates creation, then reproduces it: surely that is easy for God./ Say: Travel through the Earth and deeply observe HOW God did originate the creation; then God produces the next creation; surely God has power over all things.” 29:19-20

Traveling to study history and the past is also encouraged, as it’s a way of learning from previous people and civilizations.

“Do they not travel through the Earth, and deeply observe what was the End of those before them?” 47:10

“Have they not traveled through the Earth and deeply observed the consequences for those who were before them?” 40:82

“Say: Travel through the Earth and deeply observe how was the End of the rejectors.” 6:11

“Corruption has appeared on land and sea because of what men’s hands have earned, and so He will give them a taste of some of their deeds, in order that they may turn back./ Say: Travel through the Earth and deeply observe what happened in the end to those before you: Most of them worshipped others besides God./ Set then your face steadfastly towards the system which is straight.” 30:41-43

“Was it not a lesson for them, how many generations We annihilated before them, in whose dwellings now they do walk about? Certainly, there are messages in this: Will they not then hear?/ Do they not see that We drive the water to the barren land, then We bring forth thereby crops of which their livestock and they themselves eat; will they not then see?” 32:26-27

How do you say have a safe journey in Islam?

There is more than one way to wish someone a safe journey, you could simply say “Be safe”, or you could say “May your journey be free from stress and bring you home safely.”

Here are other things that you could say to wish someone a safe journey and to comfort them:

May the mercy of Allah go with you, and may His sheefah always make company with you as you enjoy your journey until your destination.

Allah will be your Wali as you move from your home to your destination. Your dream of traveling shall come with the rahma of Allah.

Allah will bless you beyond your expectation, and guide your way to your destination. He shall bring more success to your home. Safe journey.

May Allah send along with you angels; may they be the ones to hold your hands while you arrive at your destination.

I pray that his mayashau be with you and your entire family.

Our Lord is the most merciful; I pray that He considers your journey free from accident. May He grant you the benefit of the journey.

Journey mercy for you from the custody of Allah Haza Wajala. He shall take care of your family after you. Safe journey.

As you begin your journey with bismillaahi, may you end it with alhamdulliiaah.

Ya Allah, we cannot protect ourselves but by your leave and power. Come and protect us throughout this journey.

We direct our worship to you alone, let it be accepted, and then guarantee our safety as we carry on fulfilling our mission.

Give us your Light to see the road to our goals. Remove every obstacle that could cause an accident and let us return to our family in good health.

Ya Allah, to you, belong the East and the West. To you belong the safety of your entire creatures, known and unknown. Please bless us with a safe expedition.

When riding your transportation recite the following Dua:

Bismi-Allahi wa al-hamdu li-Allahi. Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

O Allah, You are the Lord of the seven skies and all the things that are under these skies and the seven planets and whatever is over these and of Satan who misled and all those misled by him and for the wind and all that it blows. Thus we seek the good of this town and the good of its members (people) and seek refuge from its evil and the evil of its members, and from the evils of whatever is in it.

Dua for traveling in English.

When leaving your home anytime you should say the following Dua:

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

“I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah.”

As Anas bin Malik narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) said: “Whoever says upon leaving his house (I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah.) it will be said to him: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devil will go far away from him.”

When traveling or on your way to leave the country, the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) instructed us to recite the following to have a safe journey:

“Bismillah, Walhamdulillah. Subhanal-ladzi sakh-khara lana hadza wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamun-qalibun.”

“In the name of Allah and all praise is for Allah. How perfect He is, the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service, and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.” (Hadith reported by Abu Daud and At-Tirmidhi)

Now when you arrive at your destination our prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) instructed us to say the following supplication:

“Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.”

“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelop, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.”

When returning home ay the following Dua:

Aa’iboona, taa’iboona, ‘aabidoona, Lirabbinaa haamidoon.

“We return repentant to our Lord, worshipping our Lord, and praising our Lord.”

To have a safe journey and to ask Allah to bless your journey the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) instructed us to recite the following Dua:

“With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You.”

Other Duas you can say include:

“Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return.”
